Almost 80% of voters in the United States want Congress Members banned from buying and selling stock. Almost 100% of Congress Members believe the U.S. leads the world in democracy and even spreads it to other places. Yet Congress refuses to vote on ending this, the public's least favorite, form of open corruption. Click here to email your Congress Members now. This is not merely an issue of the oddball Congress Member presenting a bad appearance, such as Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene buying Lockheed Martin stock at the start of a war and tweeting about how profitable it is. Congressional stock trading, specifically on stocks influenced by the Congress Members' committees, is extremely widespread and damaging to prospects for representative government. This form of profiteering may get lost in the flood of campaign "contributions," job offers, revolving-door careers, the relocation of businesses to strategic states and districts, etc., but the public seems to be aware and to care. Congressional stock trading has been so normalized that when you do a web search for it, you find primarily, not websites objecting to the corruption, but websites guiding people in how to buy and sell stocks that Congress Members with special knowledge have bought and sold. You'll even find well-meaning advocates celebrating Congressional stock sales of disliked corporations. This creates a means for Congress Members to boost or harm corporations that should not be a part of the job description of any elected representative. Click here to tell them what you think. |
