The entire Republican National Convention would have benefitted from reading something Congresswoman Ilhan Omar recently tweeted:

The climate crisis is the single most urgent threat we face as a nation. If we continue to ignore the threats of climate change, it could push over 130 million people into poverty by 2030. Here’s how I’ve been leading the fight for a livable future.

I introduced the End Polluter Welfare Act to end the billions of dollars in taxpayer subsidies to fossil-fuel companies. It’s way past time to end the fossil fuel welfare system.

Since arriving in Congress, I’ve been a champion of the Green New Deal. We need BOLD, transformative change to treat climate change like the global emergency it is.

As a leader in the @USProgressives Caucus, I was proud to play a leadership role in shaping the Inflation Reduction Act. I fought to make it the most ambitious climate bill in history. Thanks to that bill by 2030 we will reduce carbon emission by 40%.

I was proud to support the Green Public Housing bill to build 9.5 million new units of public housing. As millions of Americans and refugees from overseas are displaced by extreme weather from climate change, we need sustainable public housing to resettle them.

And one of the first pieces of legislation I introduced was the Zero Waste Act. My bill will create a federal grant program to help local cities invest in zero waste initiatives. These funds will go to local businesses that work to reduce waste in their operations.

I will always fight to be your climate champion and create a better world for future generations!
