RootsAction is not in the business of supporting mayoral candidates. But we’ve made an exception to support the surprisingly powerful campaign of ZOHRAN MAMDANI for New York City mayor. (You can check out his website here .)
Zohran is a young state legislator from Queens with a record of achievement. He supports increased taxes on the super-wealthy to support working-class New Yorkers.
He has a solid plan to transform New York CIty and make it affordable -- freezing rent increases for rent-regulated housing; free bus fares throughout the city (as a state legislator, he helped design the pilot program already in place); free universal child care; Scandinavian-style “baby baskets” full of free products for young families; city-subsidized food markets in each borough to bring down the price of eggs and other foods. In short, his program is the opposite of Trumpism.
And perhaps most important: Zohran is building a strong, grassroots campaign that is getting noticed by big media as it sets records for small donations.
You can donate here (and your donation will be matched).
We are sharing with you below a recent campaign email from Zohran. ENJOY THE VIDEO OF HIM VISITING HIS DONORS!
- The RootsAction Team

Last month, I took our video team out  to knock on the doors of some of the thousands of  New Yorkers who have given money to our campaign and hear their stories. The conversations that came out of it were truly amazing.

Our movement is mobilizing people from diverse backgrounds and neighborhoods across this city, many of whom have never given a dollar to a political candidate before.

We had supporters welcome us with open arms and sit down to discuss why they put their hard earned money toward our efforts, and the answers sounded familiar to the countless people we’ve been talking to across the city over the past few months.

One constant thread: people are seeing their costs of living rise year after year and a political establishment has no answers for it.  They’re ready for a mayor who will fight for them and a city that puts the working class first.

Their stories, and the lives they lead, are what make this race worth fighting for. I know that it can be tough to get by here, but that isn’t something that we have to accept in the place we call home. The policies we stand for and the effort we’ve made are for the majority. The mayor’s job is representing and fighting for every single person in this massive city and that’s exactly what I aim to do.

But we still have a long way to go. Donate $30, $40, or even $50 today, and keep us in the fight as we continue the race for City Hall. Your support is what keeps us going, and it’s more important than ever if we’re going to win.

Thank you in advance for your help. Who knows, maybe we’ll be knocking on your door soon!

In Solidarity,
