Dear RootsAction supporter,

Our friends at the Courage Foundation and Defending Rights & Dissent have led the way with an important campaign as journalists call for an end to U.S. weapons for Israel, while the routine large-scale killing of civilians continues in Gaza. We're glad to pass along to you the important message below.

With best wishes,

The RootsAction team

Through the slaughter of journalists, Israel enforces a media blackout on Gaza. According to Gazan authorities, Israel has killed over 160 journalists, making the war the deadliest for journalists in recorded history. This month, Israel openly admitted to targeting Al Jazeera journalists in an airstrike.

That’s why news outlets, press freedom organizations, and more than 100 journalists, including four Pulitzer Prize winners, issued a call last week for the State Department to impose an arms embargo on Israel. By sending this letter, organized by the Courage Foundation, Defending Rights & Dissent, and RootsAction, we hope to engage the State Department on ending the flow of American weapons to kill journalists in Palestine.

We’re calling on you to amplify this urgent message: Put this letter in front of the State Department's Secretary Antony Blinken, the White House, and Congress. All branches of government need to see this – and heed the urgent plea to end U.S. complicity in the killing of the journalists who provide a critical eye into the humanitarian disaster unfolding in Gaza. Without U.S. arms and diplomatic cover, Israel could not operate with such impunity.

Take action – amplify the call of journalists to cease the flow of weapons to Israel!

Secretary Blinken recently called on “every nation to do more to protect journalists,” and reiterated his “unwavering support for free and independent media around the world.” We ask him to stand by his words. Turn up the heat on Blinken by sending the call of journalists, outlets, and media organizations far and wide!
