Nanci Palacios Nanci Palacios is the Organizing and Membership Director at Detention Watch Network, where she leads national strategies to end immigration detention and build the power of directly impacted communities. With over a decade of experience organizing across immigrant, undocumented, Black, and queer communities, Nanci brings both lived experience and strategic vision to the fight for justice. Originally from Mexico and raised in Central Florida, Nanci’s journey as a formerly undocumented immigrant fuels her deep commitment to dismantling the detention and deportation system. She has played a key role in statewide victories like securing in-state tuition for undocumented students and advancing local campaigns to reduce the harm of immigration enforcement. Her work is rooted in the belief that no one belongs in a cage—and that real safety comes from dignity, care, and the leadership of those most impacted.
India Walton India Walton is a native of Buffalo, New York. After a decades-long career as a Registered Nurse, India began organizing as a way to influence policy that addressed the root causes of inequities in social determinants of health. She has been a staunch advocate for criminal legal reform, improving access to healthcare, safe staffing, and affordable housing. In 2021 India rocked the political establishment in her hometown by challenging and defeating a four-term incumbent in the Democratic Primary for mayor of Buffalo. Since her loss to an unprecedented write-in campaign in the general election, she has continued to advocate for increased civic participation and policies that prioritize the poor and working class as Senior Strategist with RootsAction.
The Rev. Dr. Francisco García is an Episcopal priest, organizer, and theologian. He works as a Campaign Director with Bargaining for the Common Good at the Action Center on Race and the Economy. He co-founded and co-chairs Sacred Resistance, a social justice ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles that organizes and mobilizes people of faith and conscience to offer tangible forms of solidarity with immigrants, refugees, and other communities experiencing oppression. Rev. García’s work is rooted in the philosophy and practice of nonviolent direct action and prioritizes community, labor, congregational, and interfaith organizing efforts seeking systemic change.
