There are opportunities all around us -- and we are working hard to seize them -- for moving from war to peace. The war on Gaza is a rare instance in which large numbers of people understand that killing by both sides is wrong, and in which large numbers of young people are active against a war for principled and non-partisan reasons. The stalemate in Ukraine is increasingly an opportunity to demonstrate moving both sides of a war from cries for total (and delusional) victory to negotiation and compromise. The passion now awakened gives us an opportunity to reinforce the need for freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, friendly debate and disagreement, and all sorts of civic engagement dedicated to nonviolent solutions.
