The national minimum wage has been stuck at $7.25, and losing actual value, since 2009. At a confirmation hearing for the weathy hedge-fund manager nominated by Trump for Treasury Secretary, the nominee told Senator Bernie Sanders that the minimum wage should not be changed, that in fact it should be a matter for states. Given the fecklessness and decades-long failure of Congress, and the success of numerous states on this matter, our clearest path to making life better for working people and making Secretary Hedge-Fund eat his words would be for the remaining states, such as this state, to fix their minimum wages. Some states have not only put in place a decent minimum wage but indexed it to automatically keep pace with the cost of living, so that we don't all have to waste time demanding that it be "increased" each year. Click here to tell your state to join those states that have both a $15 minimum wage and indexing to increase that wage with the cost of living. In Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Florida, Maine, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, and Washington, the minimum wage is, or is set or expected to soon be, at least $15 per hour -- and it is set to keep pace with the cost of living. Why should such an obvious policy be limited to those states? When value is restored to the minimum wage, those making over the minimum wage tend to see pay increases as well.
