Donald Trump has promised to begin mass deportation of millions of immigrants the day he’s inaugurated on January 20. This threatens to ruin many millions of lives, make a disaster of foreign relations, establish a model for the domestic use of the U.S. military, and do severe damage to the U.S. economy and particular industries. Here are three quick steps you can take to push back: 1. Register to join us for a webinar Wednesday, January 15 at 8pm EST / 5pm Pacific with Jennifer Connor, Executive Director of Justice for Migrant Families, a frontline advocacy organization, who will share actions that can be taken to protect our communities in the face of threats of mass deportations. 2. Pledge noncooperation with mass deportation. By signing this one-sentence pledge, you can help to set an example for people across the country. All signers will receive occasional emails from RootsAction with updates about a wide range of action options against mass deportation, ranging from letter-writing to nonviolent civic protests. 3. Contact your U.S. Senators and media outlets to oppose the "Laken Riley Deportation Bill" that has already passed through the U.S. House. This bill would unconstitutionally mandate the imprisonment (potentially indefinite) without bail of undocumented immigrants arrested for (but not convicted of) minor offenses like shoplifting. The Congressional switchboard number is 202-224-3121. Thanks for doing what you can! Here are some great new resources: >> ACLU: "Know Your Rights" >> CHIRLA: "My Rights Hub" |
