A strong majority in the United States supports a ceasefire in Gaza, and a majority of Democrats -- if not of everyone -- supports sending no more weapons to Israel. As with many other topics, if you try representing your constituents in the House of Representatives on this one, there's likely to be trouble. Summer Lee was elected to Congress last year because she was known in Pittsburgh, PA, as a champion of labor unions and a fighter "for the working class, for clean air and water, for Medicare for All, and for quality public education." Recently, she has won acclaim as one of the most outspoken Congress Members for peace and an end to all bigotry and hatred. She was one of only 10 to vote against a resolution supporting Israeli warmaking on October 25th, and one of only nine to vote against a resolution lying that Israel is not a state that practices apartheid. Rep. Summer Lee was an early cosponsor (there are still only 28) of the "Defending the Human Rights of Palestinian Children and Families Living Under Israeli Military Occupation Act" to prohibit Israel from using U.S. taxpayer dollars on the military detention, abuse, or ill-treatment of Palestinian children. "With over 14k Palestinians killed, including 5.8k children, and half of Gaza’s infrastructure destroyed, a 5-day pause is simply not enough. We must keep up the pressure and use this diplomatic opportunity to achieve a permanent ceasefire and just and lasting peace." —Rep.
