Movies in which a computer starts a nuclear war aren't new.

So you might think people wouldn't be actually developing computers with the ability to do just that. If so, you'd be wrong.

We're destroying the Earth's climate after decades of warnings. We're empowering officials with fascistic tendencies after decades of warnings. Clearly, having been warned doesn't solve a problem all by itself.

Nuclear apocalypse is no game. We are at severe enough risk from human "intelligence" -- the gravest risk ever in history, according to the scientists who maintain the Doomsday Clock.

Adding artificial "intelligence" to the mix is reckless in the extreme.

Obsession with developing technology gave us nuclear weapons in the first place.

We did not learn enough to abolish them, or even to take them off hair-trigger alert.

Obsession with advancing technology has now created a nightmare we've foreseen: computers that could make the decision to launch nuclear weapons all on their own.

We will either learn something right now or risk never learning anything ever again.
