The question of who thinks what statement might impress whom replaces the question of what public policies might be better than the ones we've got and what we might do to get them. But a government is not just a show. The unmentioned weapons shipments to kill Gazans matter more than an announcement of new efforts to aid the people being killed. It matters more how destructive both parties' border policies are than what politicians shout at each other.
