Much of the current political discourse these days is surrounding Biden’s approval rating and his chances of defeating Trump this November. The groundswell of student protests against the genocide in Gaza has strategists and pollsters wondering if voter turnout, especially among young voters, will be sufficient to deliver the Democrats another term in the White House. As scary as a second Trump presidency sounds, I fret even more at the thought of down-ballot races suffering at the hands of an increasingly unmotivated electorate. Legislatures, school boards, city councils and other local offices are being infiltrated by far-right candidates and fueled by millionaires and billionaires who have more interest in revising history than educating our children. Mayors will more readily invest in hyper-militarized police forces than house people. Right now the AIPAC network, heavily funded by big REPUBLICAN donors, is in full attack mode, pouring millions of dollars into the DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY in New York’s 16th congressional district.
